Falling In by Lifehouse Lyrics

Everytime I see your face

My heart takes off on a high speed chase

Now don't be scared, it's only love

Baby, that we're falling in

I can't wait to tomorrow

This feeling has swallowed me whole

And know that I've lost control

This heart that I've followed

Has left me so hollow

That was then, this is now, yeah you have changed everything

Everytime I see your face

My heart takes off on a high speed chase

Now don't be scared, it's only love

That we're falling in

I would never do you wrong

Or let you down or lead you on

Don't look down, it's only love

Baby, that we're falling in

I'm standing in your driveway

It's midnight and I'm sideways

To find out if you feel the same

Won't be easy, have my doubts too

But it's over, without you I'm just lost, incomplete

Yeah you feel like home, home to me

Everytime I see your face

My heart takes off on a high speed chase

Now don't be scared, it's only love

That we're falling in

I would never do you wrong

Or let you down or lead you on

Don't look down, it's only love

Baby, that we're falling in

All those nights I stayed away

Thinking of all the ways to make you mine

All of those smiles will never fade

Never run out of ways to blow my mind

Everytime I see your face

My heart takes off on a high speed chase

Now don't be scared, it's only love

That we're falling in

I would never do you wrong

Or let you down or lead you on

Don't look down, it's only love

Baby, that we're falling in

Don't be scared, it's only love

Baby, that we're falling in

Song Analysis 2

Lifehouse is an alternative – rock band from Los Angeles, California. The band has added and dropped many members, but the three original members were Jason Wade, the lead singer and guitarist, Sergio Andrade, the bassist, and Rick Wollstenhulme, the drummer. Lifehouse has had many hit singles throughout the trio’s career. Their first single was Hanging on a Moment from their first studio album, No Name Face, released to the radio on November 21, 2000. Fairly recently, the band has released their newest album, Smoke and Mirrors, which has their song, Falling In, on it. Falling In is a song about a boy who realizes he is falling in love with a girl. Falling In by Lifehouse uses a wide variety of poetic devices, mostly personification and hyperbole, to emphasize the boyish giddiness the singer gets when he sees a certain girl, and the love that he is beginning to feel for her.

One of the main poetic devices used in this song was personification. The first example of personification that I found in Falling In was “Every time I see your face, my heart takes off on a high speed chase.” Obviously, a heart cannot take off on a high speed chase like a human can; he just means that his heart is beating much faster than normal whenever he sees this girl. Another example I found was “This feeling has swallowed, me whole,” which just means that he is experiencing that feeling of love to the fullest. “This heart that I’ve followed has left me so hollow” is the last example of personification in this song. In actuality, you cannot follow your heart, because a heart doesn’t have the capability for it to walk away for you so you can follow it. Also, it cannot leave you hollow, because it will not physically leave your body. The songwriter is just expressing the heartbreak that he feels when he usually listens to his gut feeling, but he knows the relationship with this certain girl will work. These are all examples of personification in Falling In by Lifehouse.

The other major poetic device illustrated in this song was hyperbole. One line showing hyperbole is “Every time I see your face my heart takes off on a high speed chase.” While this shows personification, it also shows hyperbole because it would be very out of the ordinary for someone’s heart to speed up every time they saw this person’s face. The second example of hyperbole is “I can’t wait till tomorrow.” The song writer obviously can wait until tomorrow, but this exaggeration is showing that he is very excited for tomorrow. The last line that illustrates a hyperbole is “I would never do you wrong.” The word “never” in this line proves the hyperbole, because there will be times when this couple will disagree or fight or get mad at each other, but this line is symbolizing that he is promising that it will not happen often. These are the examples of hyperbole in this song.

Besides hyperbole and personification, there are some other poetic devices in this song that are important to notice. To begin, a line says “Don’t be scared it’s only love, baby that we’re falling in.” The words “only love” is showing an understatement because most people consider love a huge and great concept, but the line is saying the opposite. Another poetic device that should be mentioned is in the line “Yeah you feel like home, home to me.” This is a simile that is comparing this girl to his home because he can be himself around her. These are the other important devices in Falling In by Lifehouse that do not have too many, but are still crucial to the song.

Overall, I think Falling In by Lifehouse is a great song to sit down and listen to. It’s a great song that can get anyone in a good mood, and I think expresses love for a lot of people personally. The song is not Lifehouse’s most popular song that they’ve ever had, but it’s definitely worth hearing.

Myths and Legends Assignment

The myth to the song Crossroads, by Robert Johnson, is that the song is cursed. It is said that in the song Johnson went down to the crossroads and made a pact with Satan. According to the song, the deal was that if the Devil fulfilled all of his dreams, then Johnson traded his soul for amazing talents. However, the devil did not let him enjoy his success. This is the myth of the song Crossroads by Robert Johnson.

Most myths are false, but a few are known to be true, for example, when Ozzy Osbourne bit the heads off a bad and a dove. The incident with the dove happened at a meeting with some record-company executives when he went solo. He meant to release the dove as a sign of peace, but with Osbourne being intoxicated at the time, he bit the dove’s head off instead. While performing at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium, he bit the head off a bat that he thought was rubber. Rolling Stone magazine rated this number two on “Rock’s Wildest Myths” in 2004.

The myth behind the Beatles’ Abbey Road album is they prior to the release of the album, Paul McCartney, of the band, had died in a car accident on the way home from Abbey Road recording studio. The accident supposedly took place on November 9, 1966 at 5 AM. Within the time between his “death” and the release of Abbey Road, the myth says that the Beatles arranged a replacement look-alike for McCartney. The clues were things like when the fans played some of the music backwards there were messages referring to the death of Paul, but most of the clues were found on the cover art of Abbey Road. The evidence found here varied from what the members of the band were wearing, to the scenery in the back. John Lennon was wearing white, symbolizing the clergy, Ringo Starr was wearing black, “the undertaker”, and George Harrison was dressed in work clothes, in reference to the grave digger. Lastly, there was Paul, the “corpse”. He was out of step with the rest of the band members, the was the only one barefoot, and he was holding a cigarette, or “the coffin nail”, in his right hand even though he was left handed. These notes about Paul were all reasons for people to believe that this was not the real McCartney, but just a look-alike. Some clues for the scenery were the car’s license plate that said 28IF. This signifies the fact that Paul would have been 28 IF he had lived. The last clue to this conspiracy is the eight dots next to the Beatles sign. The dots make what looks like the Roman numeral three, supposedly expressing that there are now only three Beatles. As you can see there are many reasons why people believe this myth, but it is quite obviously not true.

Bob Dylan is most commonly known as a folk singer, which is why when he went electric at the Newport Folk Festival in July of 1965. He played with an electric blues band and it was definitely something different for Dylan fans. This created a huge controversy between which was better. This is based mostly on opinion, but a fact is that whether Bob Dylan went electric or stayed folk, he will forever be a famous Rock and Roll icon.

A myth from music that I chose to tell you about was the rumor that Gene Simmons got a tongue transplant from a cow. This is completely not true! Simmons just has an abnormally long tongue. It was impossible for him to have a procedure like that done because we did not have as advanced medical technology to successfully do that. Still this Rock rumor is false.

On the Sgt. Pepper cover, the three people I decided to talk about that I already know of are Edgar Allan Poe, Lewis Carroll, and Paul McCartney. Edgar Allen Poe is best known for his horror stories and poems that he wrote in the early 1800’s. Lewis Carroll is best known for his novels Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Through the Looking Glass, and his poem, the Jabberwocky. These were made in the late 1800’s but we still read them today. Lastly, there is Paul McCartney, who is slightly more modern. He was well known for his part in the famous band from the 60’s, the Beatles. He is a singer song writer who is still performing today, even though the group has broken up.

There are also many people who I am not familiar with on the Sgt. Pepper cover. The three I decided to learn more about are Lenny Bruce, H. G. Wells, and Issy Bonn. Firstly, Lenny Bruce was known for his screenplays, like The Rocket Man, a children’s film, and his albums with rants, comic routines, and interviews. H. G. Wells was an English author who was best known for his writings in the science fiction genre. Last, is Issy Bonn. Bonn was a famous singer, actor, and comedian best known for his recording of My Yiddishe Momme.

Jack Johnson - Better Together - Song Analysis 1

Jack Johnson is possibly one of the best songwriters of our generation. With his abilities to form clever wordplay, Johnson can easily keep a listeners attention throughout an album. Jack began songwriting during his college years, after learning to play the guitar at fourteen years of age. His major influences were Nick Drake, Ben Harper, the Beatles, Bob Marley, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, and A Tribe Called Quest. Johnson has established a current way to express simplicity in his music and his lyrics that can still be considered clever. Better Together is a perfect way to express that simplicity, complete with its cleverness, but still with subtle clichés.

Better Together was a hit song off of Johnson’s third album released in 2005, In Between Dreams. Better Together shows the perfect connection between a boy and a girl. One line says “Love is the answer at least for most of the questions of my heart like, why are we here? And where do we go? And how come it’s so hard?” The line is saying that this person is the answer to all of his questions and that’s how he knows they’re supposed to be together. The repetitive chorus has a much deeper meaning than it leads on. The line “we’re better together” shows this person makes him better, and he reciprocates that to her. One of the clichés that I mentioned was “We’ll look at them stars when we’re together,” Yes, this line is a cliché because I’m sure we’ve all heard it at some point, but it fits with the song perfectly.

Better Together is one of those songs that can easily appeal to both genders. It is a song that shows the relationship that the majority of people would love to have. Jack Johnson showed another hit song through Better Together.

There's no combination of words
I could put on the back of a postcard
No song that I could sing
But I can try for your heart
Our dreams, and they are made out of real things
Like a, shoebox of photographs - Simile
With sepia-tone loving - Objectification
Love is the answer,
At least for most of the questions in my heart
Like why are we here? And where do we go? - Simile
and how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy and
Sometimes life can be deceiving
I'll tell you one thing it's always better when we're together

[Chorus:]
MMM it's always better when we're together
Yeah, we'll look at them stars when we're together
Well, it's always better when we're together
Yeah, it's always better when we're together

And all of these moments
Just might find their way into my dreams tonight
But I know that they'll be gone
When the morning light sings
And brings new things
For tomorrow night you see
That they'll be gone too
Too many things I have to do
But if all of these dreams might find their way
Into my day to day scene
I'd be under the impression
I was somewhere in between
With only two
Just me and you
Not so many things we got to do
Or places we got to be
We'll Sit beneath the mango tree now

It's always better when we're together
Mmmm, we're somewhere in between together
Well, it's always better when we're together
Yeah, it's always better when we're together

Mmmm, Mmmm, Mmmm
I believe in memories
They look so, so pretty when I sleep
Hey now, and when I wake up,
You look so pretty sleeping next to me
But there is not enough time,
And there is no, no song I could sing
And there is no, combination of words I could say
But I will still tell you one thing
We're better together.
